Details: Bladder Pain Syndrome/Interstitial Cystitis (BPS/IC) is a common yet frequently underrecognized contributor to chronic pelvic pain. Increasing evidence suggests substantial overlap between BPS/IC, endometriosis, pelvic floor dysfunction, irritable bowel syndrome, and other chronic pain disorders. Despite this, bladder-related pain mechanisms are often overlooked in the evaluation of women with persistent pelvic pain. Recent advances have highlighted the importance of sensitization processes—including peripheral, cross-organ, and central sensitization—as well as nociplastic pain mechanisms in the development and maintenance of chronic pelvic pain. Furthermore, recognition of distinct clinical phenotypes has improved our understanding of disease heterogeneity and may facilitate more individualized management strategies. This workshop aims to provide clinicians with a practical framework for understanding, diagnosing, phenotyping, and managing BPS/IC within the broader context of chronic pelvic pain. 

Learning Objectives 

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to: 

1. Describe the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and clinical significance of BPS/IC in women with chronic pelvic pain. 
2. Recognize the role of sensitization and nociplastic pain mechanisms in symptom generation and treatment response. 
3. Identify distinct clinical phenotypes of BPS/IC and understand their implications for diagnosis and management. 
4. Apply evidence-based treatment strategies for women with BPS/IC. 
5. Integrate phenotyping and pain-mechanism-based approaches into the evaluation of complex chronic pelvic pain cases.
